Juwelier Müller in Kempten – Where exclusivity meets heritage
For more than 90 years, this exclusive jeweler for high-end jewelry and luxury watches has been located at Am Schlößle 1 in beautiful Kempten. The two traditional retail spaces, situated directly opposite each other, were set to undergo an impressive relaunch across two extensive renovation phases.
The Mission
Both the long-standing tradition of Maison Müller and the history of the listed buildings had to be seamlessly integrated into the new retail design by HEIKAUS Design Studio. It was essential that the premium quality of the products continues to be reflected throughout the showrooms. The goal was to create a curated experience across all areas—one that showcases each product category with taste and exclusivity while harmoniously connecting the rooms. The new palette of materials and colors is designed to welcome customers into an exclusive ‘living room/bar’ ambiance that is as cozy as it is impressively sophisticated.
The Challenge
In the first phase of construction, the first building and its four showrooms were redesigned and renovated within a timeframe of just under five months. The original fixtures first had to be dismantled to assess the structure of the historic building. Beyond the structural integrity, heritage protection requirements, and necessary fire safety concepts, a major challenge lay in the layout: the interconnected showrooms, totaling approximately 90 m², feature very few windows. It was therefore essential to find a solution that invites customers to explore the spaces and linger. The spatial concept had to give each product category its own ‘stage’ while maintaining a harmonious flow between the rooms. This approach continued into the second phase, where a 30 m² watch department was created in just three months to complete the overall concept—all achieved without a single day of closure.
The Solution
The solution lay in a masterful interplay of colors, materials, and light—simple elegance in a timeless form within a historical context. No standardized shopfitting systems were used; instead, HEIKAUS provided individual planning, and the joinery was custom-crafted. Every area received a lighting and color concept tailored specifically to the space and the products on display. This segmentation was further enhanced by the high-quality herringbone parquet in a light wood look, laid in a cassette-style pattern and framed by Roman travertine.
The premium Marazzi tiles in a ‘Grande Stone’ look, the partially vaulted ceilings, and the small, tunnel-like transitions create an ambiance reminiscent of a Roman bathhouse – complete with intimate areas to linger. As the atmosphere deepens and darkens toward the rear of the store, it creates an almost mystical mood, offering customers a truly unique experience, especially in the cozy bar area. The selected materials in bronze optics, velvety upholstery fabrics, and high-end stone surfaces—combined with the elegant wood-look floor segments—lend Juwelier Müller a sense of uniqueness and exclusivity that does justice to both the products and the clientele.
