The Mission

Untere Apotheke in Albstadt faced the task of redesigning its premises to create a modern and inviting environment. The requirement was to install three service counters (HV-tische) with additional seated consultation areas, create an open self-service section with a waiting zone, and move away from traditional shelving. Furthermore, a dedicated room for private consultations and treatments in a quiet atmosphere was to be integrated.

The Challenge

The challenge was to create an open, clear, and welcoming retail unit that meets the demands of modern pharmacy design. A particular highlight was implementing the concept without traditional shelving, utilizing large digital screens for the over-the-counter (OTC) displays behind the counters instead. Additionally, the task involved integrating a central waiting area in front of the registers that is both highly visible and accessible, while striking the perfect balance between openness and privacy.

The Solution

Untere Apotheke presents itself as an inviting, open retail unit featuring a friendly play of colors. Upon entering, visitors are immediately welcomed by a tiled zoning area equipped with central fixtures for product presentation and a cozy waiting lounge. All areas are designed with clarity and openness in mind. The waiting area is positioned centrally and in full view of the counters, ensuring visibility for both customers and pharmacists. A fixed wooden frame structure that defines the counter areas promotes this openness while simultaneously providing a sense of privacy. Large windows ensure an abundance of natural light, enhancing the bright concept and the vibrant ochre tones that, together with other earth tones and wood, form the primary color palette.
